How long does it take to cook pork tenderloin in the oven?

To cook a pork tenderloin in the oven, count approximately 25-30 minutes at 350ºF (180ºC). We like baking pork tenderloin in a very hot oven, like 400ºF (200ºC) in some recipes, so cooking will be much shorter. If you have previously pan-seared the pork tenderloin, it can cook for a shorter time. Always check the internal temperature of the pork tenderloin on an instant-read thermometer – it should prompt 145°F (62ºC) when done.

What’s the difference between pork tenderloin and pork loin?

Pork tenderloin is a much smaller cut of meat than pork loin. The pork tenderloin is a long, thin cut of pork that is a muscle underneath the backbone of the pig. Pork tenderloin is very lean and has less marbling, so it cooks pretty quickly.Pork loin is a wide, flat, rectangular cut of pork, usually prepared as a roast. It’s also very lean, so you shouldn’t roast it at too high temperatures or it will dry out. When you cook it right, at a low temperature, and for not too long a time, pork loin is very tender.

Is it better to cook a pork loin at 350 or 400? ›

First, you will want to preheat your oven to 400° F. You will end up lowering the heat later on but it is important to start at a high temp to trap the moisture inside the pork loin. Next, grab your favorite dry rub and rub it all over the pork loin and make sure it's evenly distributed throughout the whole loin.

CG: Roasting is the most natural way to cook a pork loin, and it's the easiest and the quickest to get into the oven. I like to sear the outside and then roast it, or you can just roast it as is. The indirect method of cooking preserves pork loin's inherent juiciness and tenderness.

Bake at 400 degrees F until pork registers between 145- and 150-degrees F (63 and 65 degrees C) at the thickest part of the tenderloin, 15-25 minutes depending on thickness. This means the pork will be juicy and slightly pink in the middle.

Is it better to sear before or after roasting? ›

Despite most recipes to the contrary, it is rarely necessary to sear meat before roasting. The idea that you “seal in the juices” is an old wives tale that has long been debunked. Your best bet is to cook it without searing and, if it isn't browning to your taste, sear it after roasting.

Is it better to sear meat before baking? ›

Searing meat doesn't create an impermeable barrier that prevents the release of natural juices when cooking or slicing a steak or other cut of meat.
