JJNC | JJNC to null9 Member 2002-Apr-21 12:34 pm It is really hard to tell what the best cable ISP is. Everyone has different experiences with even the same company. It also depends on the area, new places that are just new and wired seem to be the best. Mostly depends how the hardware, and effort of the company in the area you are located. Some places for cable are better than others. There are things much faster than cable, such as DSDN connections at 100 Mbps. Its limited to location, but I think Lan lines to the net really would be the future of the net if it takes off. From what I have heard, RR is better than comcast. I have never used comcast, but like most of you I got lots of friends all over the net, and my comcast friends are not to happy about comcast at the moment. I myself am a RR customer. Sitting here in a high tech area of NC, all newly wired for fast internet, and its great, and really really fast. Seems like location is everything.... Things are going to be changing though. All cable ISP's are going to be switching over to tier access. Does not matter what cable ISP you have, they will all surely end up switch to usage/speed based tier plans, where you have to pay for what you get, it will be a domino effect. Enjoy free usage while it lasts, because soon everyone will be riding on a 1.5 Megabit line unless they got the money for faster service. Im up for paying more for my fast lane internet, others don't like it, but even bandwidth is not free or cheap. Its only fair to pay for what you use, and how fast you use it at. |

Cylinder | Cylinder to null9 Member 2002-Apr-22 3:02 am I'm a Shaw user, and I am not real impressed with the speed (latency) of their service. It seems rather inconsisitant to me. Perhapps it is only my area. Capacity however is on the up and up here. On this site I usualy test anywere from 4000Kb - 6000Kb down and 300Kb - 490 Kb up. Not to shabby for netsurfin at all but, I am gamer and I need speed. Alas I am but one user with these problems. Other may say differant. |

| NickD to null9 Premium Member 2002-Apr-25 9:35 pm OOL is what a cable internet service should be like. High speeds, low pings, 99% uptime, extremely short outages, internet services (mail, news), and friendly tech support. Concast is the opposite of it. It is what it should not be like. |

| parasonic to null9 Member 2002-May-2 6:18 pm ConCast wants $50 to $70/mo for 1.5mbit x 128kbit. The network is maintained poorly. @home used to be $39.95 for 3mbit x 128kbit. ConCast knocked out our news servers. They use the LOUSY AT&T backbones, which have horrible latency. ConCast is to say the least, wicked! |
